Leon Anscomb Services Held in Grangeville

L. Leon (Speck) Anscomb, 54, was pronounced dead on arrival at the McCall Hospital following an apparent heart attack at Riggins.

He was born June 30, 1922, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Anscomb near Butte, Montana.  He moved as an infant, with his parents, to White Bird where he grew up and received his education.

During World War II he served in the Pacific with the Army air Force.  After receiving his discharge with the rank of Corporal he returned to the Salmon River area where he ranched for a time.  He also served for a period as a deputy Sheriff of Idaho County.

Anscomb lived in Southern California for a number of years returning to Idaho in 1956.  In 1961 he moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, and was a civilian employee for the United States Air Force.  

In 1972 due to failing health he again returned to Idaho and had lived in Riggins for the past three months.  He was united in marriage to Mable Bryant on august 30, 1974 in Nevada.

He is survived by his widow, mable, living in Nampa; a son, Jim L. Anscomb of Boise; three daughters, Marlene Perry of Grangeville, Maurine Gardner of Boise, and Judy Jacobson of Langdon, North Dakota; a step-son, Dennis Cochran of Denver, Colorado; sister, Mrs. Emmadean Priestley, Long Beach Calif., three grandchildren and numerous aunts and uncles.

Funeral Services for L. Leon (Speck) Anscomb were held Tuesday, August 10, at the Hansen-Noland Funeral Home in Grangeville.  Burial followed the services at the White Bird cemetery.
