OSCAR ASKER DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Oscar Asker, 76, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 9,
at General Hospital, where he had been a patient since Saturday. He had been in
ailing health for several years.
Mr. Asker was born Dec. 1, 1872 in Sweden. He came to the United States when 19
years of age coming directly to Cottonwood. He followed the carpenters trade on
the prairie for a number of years and when the reservation was opened for
settlers he took a homestead in the Winona section. On July 2, 1899 he was
married to Miss Belle Reckdahl in Cottonwood and they made their home on the
farm until 1930 when they sold out and moved to Grangeville which had since been
their home.
He was lodge member of the Mt. Idaho lodge #7, I.O.O. F., having been an Odd
Fellow for over 50 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Surviving relatives include his widow, at home; three sons, John and Louis of
Grangeville and Carl of Plymouth, Mass.; three daughters, Mrs. Mae Samsel,
Grangeville; Mrs. Ellen Blakesley and Mrs. J.M. Snodgrass, Missoula, Mont., also
23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Robertson
Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Harold Black officiating. Burial will be in Prairie
View Cemetery.
