DEATH OF RALPH CROOKS
The entire community was shocked Friday evening when the news came to Jake Crooks that his son, Ralph, had been accidentally shot at Almota the day before.  Ralph had for some weeks been staying with his cousins at that place and on Thursday the boys were preparing to go hunting.  One of his cousins, a boy by the name of Johnson, was sitting in a swing with a .22 caliber rifle across his lap, waiting for the party to get ready to start, when the chamber of the gun caught on the rope and the weapon discharged, the ball striking Ralph in the forehead.  He lived about an hour but never regained consciousness.  Mr. Johnson at once started to bring the body home, arriving here Saturday afternoon.  The funeral took place at the Grangeville cemetery Sunday forenoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Crooks have the heart-felt sympathy of the entire community in this sad and sudden bereavement.  Ralph was their eldest son, seventeen years of age, and had become a great help and comfort to them and thus without a moments warning to lose him is inexpressibly sad.  But when it comes as in this case, to the young man just entering upon a sphere of usefulness, sudden and terrible.  Its presence is felt in a double measure.
