PRESS June 29, 1905 George W. Dyer, died in Comfort, Idaho, April 1, 1905, aged 75 years and 10 days. In the spring of 1852 he, in the company of his brother, went to California “round the horn” in search of gold. He sent for the sweetheart of his youth from Rockland, Maine, who made the long tedious journey to reach him and in San Francisco, where he met them and she became his wife. They went to the little mountain home he had prepared for her, of which she became the joy and sunshine. There, six month later, she calmly fell asleep and the broken-hearted man never seemed to fully recover from this crushing loss and until the close of life mourned the early wreck of his home and happiness. He was of kindly, generous disposition and dreamy, poetic temperament, and life amid the mountain fastness held charms irresistible for him and there, away from home and kindred, he calmly followed into the Great Beyond, the beloved wife of his early manhood. |
