Free Press, May 21, 1914 DEATH OF OLD PIONEER Thomas Ward Girton, one of Idaho county's oldest pioneers, died last Thursday and was buried Saturday afternoon at the burial grounds on the old Girton ranch a few miles southwest of the city. Mr. Girton was born in Indiana in 1832, and went to California in the gold rush excitement of 1849. He came to Florence, Idaho county, in the early days and later settle here on the prairie, where he has lived for many years. He was married to Elizabeth Skipton, who died four years later, and later he married Hulda Hinkle. His second wife died in 1901. Two sons and three daughters, beside a host of sorrowing friends, survive. Mr. Girton was a member from Lemhi county of the first Idaho legislature which met at Lewiston when that city was the capital of the state. The funeral was conducted by Undertaker Hancock, Rev. Knox.
