Ida H. Urbahn, 83, GrangevilleFriday, October 31, 2003 Ida H. Urbahn, 83, a Grangeville resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Syringa General Hospital in Grangeville. Mrs. Urbahn was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Watford City, N.D., to Axel and Clara Anderson Johnson. She graduated from Watford City High School in 1937. Prior to World War II, she worked in Minneapolis and then moved to Seattle during the war. She worked there as a housekeeper and governess and on the aircraft assembly line at Boeing. She married Robert F. Urbahn in Seattle March 24, 1946. She made her home in Grangeville since then, keeping the home fires burning while Mr. Urbahn ran the family business, Miller Hardware. Mr. Urbahn passed away in 1981. A homemaker for the past 57 years, she was a member of the Grangeville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. For many years she made infant quilts and mincemeat for the group's fund-raisers. When her children were young, she was active in Camp Fire Girls and Scouting. Her family wrote: "She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed very much. She was a country girl at heart and truly enjoyed her small circle of church friends and life on the Camas Prairie. We particularly want to thank the staff and residents of Meadowlark Home for the loving care she received there the last year of her life." She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Annelle Urbahn of Grangeville; daughter and son-in-law Doris and S.E. Thomas of Eagle River, Alaska; grandchildren Kurt and Jonna Urbahn and Tommiann Whitten of Grangeville; and Robert E. (Bob) Thomas of Eagle River. Other survivors include her sister-in-law, Ruth Urbahn of Grangeville; brothers Grant Johnson of Battle Ground, Wash., Art Johnson of Portland, Ore., and Vernon Johnson of Watford City; and sisters Mae Johnson of Watford City and Ethel Greenwood of Lake Forest Park, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and her brother, Clarence Johnson. A service is at 10 a.m. Monday at Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville. Pastor Joel Aosved of the Grangeville United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery in Grangeville. A viewing for friends is from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Blackmer Funeral Home. The family requests donations be made to the Grangeville United Methodist Church memorial fund.
