DEATH CLAIMS PRAIRIE RESIDENT
HOLD FUNERAL SERVICES WEDNESDAY FOR AGED COTTONWOOD RESIDENT
Residents of Cottonwood received a shock Sunday morning when word was made known
of the death of Mrs. Mary Klapprich, pioneer resident of this community. Mrs.
Klapprich was 83 years of age at the time of her death and while she had been in
failing health for some time her demise came unexpectedly and as a surprise to
relatives and friends. Death was attributed to complications arising from old
age.
Mary Herbrand was born at Habschied, Germany on August 23, 1853 and came to the
United States with her parents when two years of age. The family settled in
Minnesota where she grew to womanhood. In 1876 she was united in marriage to
Peter Klapprich and shortly afterward they moved to Bismarck, N.D. where they
lived until 1903 when the family came west and located on a farm near
Cottonwood.
In 1916 Mr. and Mrs. Klapprich retired from the strenuous life of operating the
farm and moved to town to live. Mr. Klapprich passed away in October 1930.
Mrs. Klapprich, a life long member of the Catholic Church, was a staunch
Christian and was a loving mother, and a friend to all who knew her. The entire
community offers sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their hour of sorrow.
Surviving relatives are three daughters, Mrs. Frank Jaszkowiak, Bismarck, N.D.,
Mrs. John Schnider and Mrs. E.J. Terhaar, both of Cottonwood; three sons, Harry,
Joseph and Louis, all of Cottonwood and two brothers, Nick Herbrand, Foley,
Minnesota and Michael Herbrand, Denver, Colorado.
One daughter, Mrs. Thomas Gentry passed away at Cottonwood in 1920 and the
eldest son died when a child of two years of age.
Funeral arrangements were held at the Catholic Church in Cottonwood Wednesday
morning at eight o'clock with the Rev. Fr. Verhoeven reading the Requiem Mass
and the church was crowded with friends who came to pay their final respects the
venerable lady taken from the community. Following the services at the church,
interment was in the local cemetery.
Pallbearers were Henry, Louis, Bernard and Richard Schnider and George
Jaszkowiak, grandsons of Mrs. Klapprich and Delmar Rad, a great-grandson.
Funeral arrangements were in charge of Brower-Wann, Lewiston.
