Idaho County Free Press 09/10/1980 Urban Lester Dies Urban S. Lester, a retired
Idaho County farmer, died Tuesday morning September 2 at the Grangeville
Convalescent Center. He was 84. Born Sept. 23, 1895, at
Southwest City, Mo., he was the son of Frank and Laura Lester. He attended
school in Missouri before his parents migrated to Oregon and then to Idaho,
settling north of Grangeville in 1912. Lester served in Scotland
for 18 months as a member of the Navy during World War I. He and Nellie
Asker were married at Lewiston on Nov. 26, 1923 and moved to a farm near Fenn. Several years later they
moved to a farm south of Cottonwood where they lived until 1965 when they
retired and moved to Grangeville. Lester was a member
of the Grangeville Methodist Church and the Veterans of World War I. Survivors include his widow
at the family home; two daughters Marilyn Bieker of Nampa and Pat Whitely of
Lewiston; two brothers, John Lester of Fenn and Henry Lester of Weiser; a
sister, Mrs. Wilmuth Williams of Ontario, Ore., nine grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. The body was cremated and a private memorial service planned. Arrangements were handled by Uhlorn Funeral Home at Cottonwood. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to Syringa General Hospital. Submitted
