1936 Ben F. Robertson
Rites Held Sunday Services Sunday by
I.O.O.F. and K. of R. Lodges; Tony Gordon Passes Ben F. Robertson, deputy sheriff and jailer of Idaho
county, died last Friday evening, following an illness of about a week, although
sickness and ill health had pursued him for the past two or three years. Benjamin Franklin Robertson was born in Slabtown, Oregon
August 22, 1868 and in 1881 moved with his family to Colfax, Wash.
He was united in marriage to Evva Terwillegar February 25, 1894 and in
1896 he and Mrs. Robertson moved to Idaho county, settling on a ranch at
Greencreek. He and his brother
operated a livery barn in Cottonwood for a short time, and in 1920 moved with
his family to Grangeville where they have since resided. He served Idaho county two terms as deputy sheriff under
W.H. Eller, for more than ten years was chief of police of the city of
Grangeville, and for the past year had been at the county jail. Mr. Robertson was a charter member of the I.O.O.F. lodge at
Winona, and a 25-year veteran of McKinley lodge Knights of Pythias at
Cottonwood, receiving his veteran’s jewel there last spring at the district
convention. Surviving are his widow, a son, Reynold and a daughter,
Mrs. Lola King; five grandchildren, Delmore, Lolietta, Jun Elanore and Buddie
Robertson and Joan Lea King; two brothers, Clarence of Kimberly, Oregon and John
of Portland, and a sister, Mrs. Susan Blackman, Portland. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Ailor Mortuary, Rev. H.E. Sias officiating and services inn charge of the local Odd Fellow lodge. Interment was in the Prairie View cemetery under the direction of the Knight of Pythias lodges of Grangevillle and Cottonwood. |
