Chas. Wilson, of John Day creek, who died here last Friday morning, was a native of Sweden and had resided in this county since 1862.  He mined in Florence and also in Copeland's digging, Long Valley.  For many years he has resided on his ranch on John Day creek, where he made a living by raising garden produce and by packing.  Wilson and his cayuse pack train were familiar sights on Salmon River.  He was popularly credited with being a miser and with having $10,000 worth of gold dust cached away somewhere.  He was over sixty years old when he died and the remains were interred in the Grangeville burying ground last Saturday.
