IDAHO COUNTY FREE PRESS FRIDAY, APRIL 1, 1887 SUDDEN DEATH A crowd of the old timers held high carnival at the Doumecq store on Salmon River, as a result, Harry Wolfe was killed. Deceased had been drinking China whiskey pretty freely and started on horseback for his home below the mouth of White Bird, and was found on the trail next morning with his head stove in. He was taken back to the store and the head dressed, and the crowd continued to carouse. Wolfe was sensible and laughed at the mishap, and he kept on filling himself with whiskey so that he was stupified with liquor when Dr. Bibby appeared. The doctor took 13 pieces of bone from the brain, dressed the wound and left him. He died soon after. it is supposed that he fell from the horse, and that the horse then stumbled and fell on him in such a way as to crush in the skull with the horn of the saddle. The animal has not been seen since. Wolfe was born near Berlin about 50 years ago. |
