Free Press, October 11, 1917 JAMES G WOOD BURIED; IS VICTIM OF NEPHRITIS - Funeral Services Held Tuesday For Well-known Resident of Grangeville Funeral services for James Garfield Wood, who died Sunday night, were held Tuesday afternoon 2 o'clock in the home of his sister, Mrs. John Norwood in Grangeville, the Rev. Mr. Sumerville of Lewiston officiating. The Episcopal service was read. Mr. Wood, who had been ailing for almost a year and a half, succumbed to nephritis. He was born at Freedom, Ida., on Aug 20, 1881. Mr. Wood was well and favorably known in Grangeville and vicinity, and numbered his friends by the hundreds. He had for more than seventeen years been a member of the Grangeville band. Surviving him are his mother, Mrs. Carrie L. Wood; two sisters, Mrs.. Anna Norwood, Grangeville; Mrs. C.L. Spencer, Seattle; and four brothers, Jack Wood, Challis, Ida.; C.H. Wood, Harry Wood and Dr. F.E. Wood all of Grangeville. The Eagles, of which order Mr. Wood was a member, officiated at the burial in Prairie View Cemetery. The funeral procession was headed by the Grangeville band and was followed by the Eagles and sorrowing friends. Pallbearers were Frank Van Deventer, Van Robertson, Thomas Roby, Robert Pugh, Charles Johnston and Fen Batty, all Eagles. A.J. Maugg directed the funeral.
