DAVIDSON, Samuel C.
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF AN EARLY SETTLER
On Friday last, Judge John B. Davidson received the sad intelligence that his brother, Samuel C. Davidson, had that morning died at his home in Lewiston, Idaho. This calls to mind the fact that Samuel C. Davidson was one of the early and prominent pioneers of Central Washington, he having come to Yakima City in 1880, and to Ellensburg in 1881, where he resided until 1902, when he removed with his family to Lewiston, Idaho. He was a lawyer of ability and was the pioneer of his profession in this city. He practiced law here until his health failed about ten years ago. During his residence in Ellensburg until his health was broken he always took a leading part in all enterprises for the advancement of the interests of the community. He it was who first suggested the building of the Ellensburg Canal that runs through the North part of Ellensburg and lent every assistance in getting the enterprise under way. At one time he had large property interests here, owning most of the choice residence properties in the north end besides business property. When the Spanish American War broke out he immediately responded to the call for men and assisted in organizing Company H which did such valiant service in the Philippines. He was commissioned First Lieutenant of the Company, but was prevented from going to Manilla on account of ill health. Just before his regiment sailed he suffered an attack of organic heart trouble that finally caused his death. It was the greatest disappointment of his life that his health prevented his participation in the Philippine campaign. Samuel C. Davidson was a man of startling integrity faithful to his friends and outspoken in his beliefs and principles. He was a good citizen and fearless and always took a prominent and active part in politics. He was born near Rochester, Indiana about 58 years ago and was the son of Stephen and Catherine B. Davidson. He leaves a wife and two sons, Omarr and Hugh and daughter Gale. One brother John B. Davidson resides in this city and four sisters reside in Fulton County Ind. He was a thirty second degree Mason.
