1932 - 2013
Claude R Fields went to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ while at home, Sunday April 7th.
He was born November 18, 1932 at Roseberry ID to Ralph and Viola Fields. Claude was the second oldest of four boys. He resided in Roseberry until the age of 8 and then the family moved to Old Meadows, ID.
He graduated from New Meadows High School. He was then drafted by the Army and served some time in Korea. After his stint in the service, he went on to graduate from Conquerors Bible College in Portland OR. Later he served on the Conquerors Bible College board for several years. After college Claude started working for J.I. Morgan Logging as a sawyer. Little did Claude know, in 1962 a dental appointment would lead to meeting Juanita, the love of his life. They would be married 50 years and have four daughters. His logging career lasted until 1985. After retiring from logging, he became the sole owner of D-9 Grocery and would continue to work in the store until his passing. Claude enjoyed the challenge of becoming a grocery store owner. He always enjoyed going to work and seeing his employees. You could find him in his red apron facing shelves or in the office. His main hobby was competing in logging sports. The family would spend many happy summer weekends traveling to logging shows, competing throughout the Pacific Northwest. Claude and his brothers were known in the logging community as expert loggers. In 1989 Claude & John were asked to fall the largest Ponderosa Pine in Idaho. Several of the pieces are on display in Katherine Albertson Park.
In 1980 & 1982 he qualified to compete at the Homelite Tournament of Kings in Charlotte NC. Claude enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed time spent talking & laughing with family and friends. He was always delighted to see and hear about the many activities of his 6 grandchildren.
Claude was proceeded in death by his parents, Ralph & Viola Fields and his brother, Larry Fields. Claude is survived by his brothers, Tom Fields, John Fields and several nieces & nephew. He is also survived by his children and their families, Priscilla & Tom Raffetto (Sophia Raffetto); Elizabeth Fields (David & Lillian Ball); Claudia & Jeff Johns (Corissa, Emily, Grace Johns); Jewel & Ray Foutch (one on the way).
Services will be held at Cascade Community Church, 109 W Pine St., Cascade, ID on Saturday, April 13th at 11:00 am. Graveside service immediately following at Holmes Cemetery east of Roseberry, ID. Services are under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.
