Carl A Rosselli, 87, of McCall passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, surrounded by his family.
There will be a celebration of life at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at the McCall Baptist Church located at 200 Stibnite St.
Carl was born on Jan. 30, 1924, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Olga and Victor Rosselli. He spent summers on his uncle’s ranch in Yerington, Nev., to help his family.
During his high school years, he was voted all-around athlete for two years as he loved sports, especially basketball.
On Nov. 24, 1943 Carl joined the Army to serve his country in World War II as part of the 82nd Airborne Infantry Division, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Company I.
As part of his military career he served as a guard to Gen. Eisenhower’s headquarters in 1945. He received an Honorable Discharge on Jan. 10, 1946.
In 1948 Carl went to work with the Forest Service in McCall as a smokejumper, retardant expert, smokejumper spotter, smokejumper trainer, and hot-shot supervisor. In 1955 Carl, married Arlene Dimbatt, and had two children, Carol Ann and Danny.
In 1978 Carl retired from the Forest Service. Carl was an active senior citizen member, VFW member, and involved in his church, as he loved socializing with his friends and helping others.
Carl and Arlene were voted “Lord and Lady of the Lake” by the McCall Senior Citizens Center for the 1994 McCall Winter Carnival.
Carl adored spending time with his grandchildren as they filled his life with joy. He loved to laugh, tease, and would offer “soft” wisdom when asked for advice.
Carl was an incredible person and role model for his family as he always, without fail, put others first in his life.
Carl is survived by his wife, Arlene Rosselli; a son, Danny Rosselli and wife Wendy of McCall; and daughter, Carol Ann Olsen and husband Len of Scotts Mills, Ore.; grandchildren, Leah McReynolds, Carla Rosselli and fiancée Jason McClure, Eliza Lucker, and Brian Olsen; great grandchildren, Makaya McReynolds, Joshua Olsen, Riley Rosselli, and Myla McClure; and siblings, June Hastriter and Tommy Sidner.
We celebrate his life, grieve his departure, and know how much he loved us all. See you in heaven Carl, we love you.
