Kennith Gene (Kenny) Grotjohn, 77, passed away on Jan. 15, 2011, of natural causes in Boise.
He will be cremated and there will be no services per his request.
He was born Dec. 4, 1933, the second son of William John and Annie (Heinssen) in Brookings, S.D.
When he was approximately 5 years old the family moved to Chula Vista, Calif. He lived in Southern California until moving to McCall in 1975.
During his lifetime he worked for Rohr Aircraft, and he dredged and dove for gold each summer on the Feather River in Northern California, as well as in Alaska.
He would return to Southern California each winter and worked as a pipefitter. He also was a member of the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union.
He enlisted in the Army and served in Korea from 1954 to 1956 as a mechanic.
He married his loving wife on Feb. 26, 1966, and they celebrated 43 years of marriage before Lorre’s passing in 2009.
Upon moving to McCall, he and Lorre built their dream home and he worked for Lake Fork Sand & Gravel, Vic’s Plumbing and lastly, Lakeview Village as the assistant manager and finally as manager until his retirement in 1993.
He was an avid hunter, using a rifle and archery and hunted Havalena (wild pig), goat, wild bear, deer and elk in Arizona, Catalina Island, Calif., Utah and Idaho.
He also loved to fish, doing so in the Pacific Ocean, Nevada, California, and Idaho on the Salmon, Snake, Clearwater, Columbia and Payette rivers.
He is survived by his brothers, Virgil (Dorothy) of Missouri and Vern (Renee’) of McCall; his children, Clifford of California and Lori Ann (Tom) Brown of Boise; grandson, Kennith of California; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Annie and his beloved wife, Lorre.
His children wish to thank all the caregivers who took such good care of him after his fall and ensuing convalescence upon breaking his hip last year.
We wi¥sh to publicly thank all the staff at Regency Columbia Village. Their kind, compassionate, loving care for the last five months of his life was such a blessing to us.
Also to the staff at Legacy Hospice who also took such good care of Dad and assisted us in so many ways.
He will be missed tremendously by all who knew him.
