Fern R. Ellis passed away on Dec. 11, 2012 in Boise.
Fern’s wishes were there not to be a funeral or graveside service. Instead, she hoped that all of her family and friends remembers all the memories throughout the various times with her.
Fern Ruth Schaefer Ellis was born on Jan. 23, 1914 in Rigby, to Laura (Antrim) and John Schaefer.
The family moved to Smiths Prairie to a cattle ranch where they lived until 1922.
At this time they moved to Boise. Fern attended Garfield and Longfellow School and graduated from Boise High School in 1932. While attending cosmetology school Fern met Kyle Ellis, whom she married in 1934.
In 1937 the family moved to Emmett to operate the service station/wholesale gas territory of Associated Oil Co. Soon after this venture, Kyle and Fern bought a farm in Boise where they raised their two children, Donna and Derroll.
Fern took great pride in watching her children in their various childhood activities. The family ran a dairy and did custom combining jobs.
In 1954, Kyle and Fern bought the Nebb Ranch in Round Valley. Fern and Kyle took great pride in spending 50 years on this ranch.
The ranch was centered on not only ranching activities, but the constant presence of family and friends. There was always the comfort to everyone that the door to Fern’s house was always open.
On Friday and Saturday nights, everyone was always welcome to sit around the fire pit for a gathering of stories and laughter.
Fern always made sure that food was plentiful. We all learned to never ask for the recipes to this great food, though, since it was always a pinch of this and a pinch of that.
Fern will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but again we ask that you remember a story with her and find laughter with those thoughts.
Fern was preceded in death by her loving husband Kyle F. Ellis in 2007, and one brother and one sister.
She is survived by her daughter Donna Trees and son Derroll (Loretta) Ellis. Fern is also survived by grandchildren Holly (Monte) Spiering, Doug (Vicki) Trees, Suzette Nelson, Dan (Heather) Ellis, Thomas Ellis and six great-grandchildren.
