Donald Culver Seaquist

On Oct. 14, 2012, Donald Culver Seaquist, 82 of Los Osos, Calif., was laid to rest at the Mount Pleasant cemetery outside of El Dorado Springs Missouri with military honors conducted by the Spicer-Grimsley Post 257 of the VFW and an honor guard from Fort Leonard Wood Army base.

Mr. Seaquist was one of two sons born to E. Albin and Laura Culver Seaquist in Corsica, S.D. The family moved to McCall, where E. Albin was editor and manager for the local newspaper and Don and his brother Bob graduated from Donnelly McCall High School.

In 1948, Don married Patricia Ann Brown, daughter of Russell and Teresa Brown of McCall. To this union were born three daughters; Linda Bartkoski of El Dorado Springs, Mo.; Laura Quinn of Prairie Village, Kans.; and Paula Park of London, England.

Don entered the U.S. Army and served on Eniwetok Island. Don was a graduate of Boise Business College and went to work for the Chevron Corp., where he became their head accountant.

In 1957 Don and Patt were divorced and Don moved to Utah where he met and married Betty Pace, who passed away in 1985.

Don had moved to California by then and later married Carrie June Salisbury who passed away in May 2011.

Don was part of a notorious group known as the “5 Ds.” The group was made up of Don Herchberger, Don Simpson, Dan LeVan, Dick Speedman, and Don Seaquist.

As often as possible the “Ds” and their wives would get together for a fun-filled reunion beginning 51 years to the day after they had enlisted in the army in 1948. This first reunion held in McCall was one of many the five “Ds" enjoyed over the years.

With Don Seaquist’s passing, only Dick Speedman and Don Herchberger remain of the fabulous five.
