Flora “Duffer” Marie Skeen

Flora “Duffer” Marie Skeen, 89, of La Grande, Ore., formerly of New Meadows, passed away at her home on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012.

Funeral services will be held on Jan. 4, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at the Faith Assembly Church, 1800 N. Road 72, Pasco, Wash. Loveland Funeral Chapel in La Grande, Ore., is handling the arrangements.

Flora was born on June 12, 1923 in Health, Ark., to John Mounce and Sibby Barker.

She married Tom Woodrow Taylor on Oct. 26, 1940. On Aug. 20, 1960 she married Lloyd Walter Skeen. Lloyd passed away about 20 years ago.

She lived in several places throughout her life including Fayetteville, Ark., Payette, New Meadows, Kamiah, Pasco, and La Grande.

She was considered the “world’s best grandma” with a heart above all others. She was a great bowler and has the trophies to prove it.

She enjoyed baking homemade breads and making jams and jellies. She also enjoyed camping, hunting and especially loved sitting around the campfire. She enjoyed sewing things for the grandkids and making quilts.

She loved to travel, and her travels took her to Arkansas, Alaskan Cruise, Israel, Hawaii and Belize.

She was a member of Rebekah Lodge in New Meadows, Idaho and the Faith Assembly Church in Pasco.

Flora is survived by five children and their spouses, Rosa Rupp (Fawn) of Pasco, Gerald Taylor of Clarkston, Wash., Joyce Higgins (Pat) of La Grande, Theta Ellsworth of Richland, Wash., and Sharon DeFord of Burbank, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
