Barbara Waters, 93, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, in Santa Rosa, Calif.
A private service will be held for her children.
She was a native-born Californian, affectionately known as “Tutu” by her 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was affectionately known as “H20” by her friends, clients and colleagues.
The Waters family owned, operated and were investors in numerous transportation businesses nationally and internationally from 1928 through 1983.
Locations and businesses included Detroit (Waters Manufacturing & The Whitewall Tire Company), Hayward (Waters Oldsmobile), New York (Skyview Cab Company, James F. Waters East Coast Distribution Center), Oakland (Waters Ford), San Francisco (DeSoto Cab Company; James F. Waters West Coast Distribution Center; Waters Buick; Waters DeSoto, Chrysler, Plymouth; Waters Helicopter Corporation; Waters Leasing, Waters Studebaker). International operations offices in Australia, Hawaii and the Philippines.
She was an alumna of U.C. Berkeley (B.A., Fine Arts), alumna of U.C. Santa Barbara (Masters of Fine Arts, Teaching Credential), and a member of Alpha Delta Pi (national sorority, U.C.Berkeley).
She was a graduate of Anthony’s School of Real Estate, a graduate of Xerox Seminar of Salesmanship, a charter member, treasurer, and vice-president of The Assistance League of San Mateo County and chairman of its annual Gold Ball; vice president of St. Matthew’s Mother’s Club and chairman of its annual fashion show and carnival; president of St. Bartholomew’s Women’s Club; Serra High School Fund Raising Chairperson (Annual House Tour and Mardi Gras Ball); Boy Scout den mother; Girl Scout leader; member, Awards Committee, National Automobile Dealers of America.
She also was publicity chair, California Golf Club; member, board of director’s of Catholic Social Service of San Mateo County; member, board of directors, Tri Valley Haven for Women; volunteer, Red Cross, Veterans Hospital, Livermore; 1987 listing “Who’s Who in California; member, Southern Alameda County Association of Realtors 1971-2000; real estate broker 1979-2000; advocate and member of Southern Alameda County Association of Realtors serving on Nominating, MLS, Grievance, Education, Membership, Mini-Convention , Ethics, Professional Standards and Education committees.
She was elected director-at-large, SACAR board of directors, 1990 and 1991; SACAR Volunteer of the Year, 1992; SACAR chairperson of the Realtors Store and Van 1992; and SACAR Home Fair Committees, 1995 to 2000.
She was a former real estate broker for Harris Realty in Pleasanton and Stocking Realty in Livermore.
She was a former resident of Santa Ana, Berkeley, Santa Barbara, Hillsborough, Pleasanton, Discovery Bay, Livermore, Fremont, Valencia and Newhall.
She will be remembered for her tremendous spirit and energy, her ability to create many “gardens of Eden,” for her many children and the life-long influence she had on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her life is a true testament of her strong, ethical, charitable drive.
She was always ready for a party. She took the “canvas of life” and spread the oils into a masterpiece only a true artisan could create.
She was the widow of Robert Waters, Jr. and Donald Ewing and the mother of eight children: Robert Waters, III (deceased), Teresa Waters (Washington), Charles Waters (wife Susan) (Arizona and Idaho), James Waters (wife Kitty) (San Mateo), Sherry Waters-Fong (husband Calvin) (Arizona), Patty Waters-Cassidy (husband Michael) (Valencia & Discovery Bay), Jo-ellen Waters-Curtis (husband Dan) (Petaluma), Barbara Waters-Katona (Glen Ellen).
